I always start with the lips because lips are easy. Lips are red. Then I color the skin. This is where things get tricky. What you may not realize is that white people aren’t white. They’re light peach. Sometimes peach. Depends if they’re Italian. To make things more confusing, brown people aren’t brown; they’re tan. Black people are brown. Or light brown or sienna brown. It’s case-by-case situation. I’ve even come across a black person who was tan. I’ve only worked on a few Asian subjects and I’ve always used light peach. It works.
After I color in the skin, I do the hair. You can almost always use brown. As for the clothes, jeez, how am I supposed to know? I don’t know what your picture looks like. Try green?
If you’d like to learn more about how to be an artist, or if you’d like a custom piece, send me a note. I’ve been obsessed with creating mural. So if you have a big wall you don’t like, I’d love to draw something bad on it.
